Franchise agreements can take many different forms.
Agreements are different from one franchisor to another, but there are also different types of franchise agreements you can enter into.
Single Unit Franchise:
This is the simplest franchise agreement. You can own and operate a one franchise at one specific location, or within a specified territory. Most franchisees start with one franchise unit.
Multiple Unit Franchises:
If you want to own more than one franchise, then purchase and operate a single unit franchise successfully with a franchisor who supports expansion with franchisees that are successful with their first unit. Over time you can own and operate multiple franchise units, most often in the same geographic area.
Area Development:
As an Area Developer you either own a large territory which is subdivided into multiple franchises over time, or you purchase several franchises from the start in a multi-unit franchise agreement. The franchisee then develops these individual franchise locations within a specified time frame.
Master Franchise:
The Master Franchisee also purchases a large area or region and develops a number of franchises within a certain time frame. The difference between an Area Developer and a Master Franchisee is that the Master Franchisee also has to sell franchises within the territory to other people, and train and support those franchisees.
You’ll find franchisors in many industries that offer master franchises, but few who offer multi-unit and area agreements to qualified prospects.
