Smart Pukekohe
Wyatt brings commitment and enthusiasm in helping business owners understand their business (and personal) financial situation. “It is an absolute joy to help someone reach a financial goal, and get a better lifestyle,” he says.
He has a strong belief in the Franklin community having started his working life picking sugar sacks of potatoes at 10 cents a bag for a well known local market gardener, and being a Crane Chaser at New Zealand Steel in Glenbrook – as well as being involved for many years in several local organisations amongst them, the Pukekohe RSA pipe band.
After starting his banking career in the Pukekohe branch of the National Bank, Wyatt has gone on to spend 30 years in the banking/financial industry and 5 years in food retail/café in Canada. He has always enjoyed meeting people and understanding their needs.
His business life has led to a wealth of experience in financial systems and managing teams. As Wyatt says, “team work is a vital requirement for the success of any business – and when it comes to managing the financials the team needs to be systematic, well organised, honest, reliable and careful with detail.”
“I have seen too often during my years in the Banking industry, the stress brought on business owners and their families, of not having regular and effective understanding of their financial situation,” says Wyatt. “This is business and personal finances, as the two although separate, are co-related.”
“Smart enables the business owner to remove the hassle of the admin work enabling them to focus on their business, and to utilize their skills for which they originally went into the business,” he continues, then adds with a smile – “It is an absolute joy to help someone reach a financial goal, and get a better lifestyle.”
Born in Otahuhu and educated initially at Papatoetoe East Primary and Intermediate, Wyatt moved to Pukekohe with his parents in 1968 where he attended Pukekohe Intermediate, then Pukekohe High School.
During this time he was playing in the High School Orchestra, was selected twice for the percussion section of the ‘South Auckland Secondary Schools Festival Orchestra’, and played in a couple of bands in South Auckland. Growing up in Pukekohe, music has been a lifelong passion which led to him becoming the first drum sergeant and drum tutor as a member of the Pukekohe RSA pipe band.
Although he’s not one for hanging things on the wall he does admit to achieving medals in gymnastics. He’s no longer into physical sports however as he has a tendency to brake collar bones – having done so 7 times – a testimony to his perseverance and tenacity!
Wyatt is married to Margaret with a thirteen year old daughter Ainsley.
He has has toured Fiji with Pukekohe High School Band/Orchestra, travelled to England and Scotland – and lived for 7 years in Vancouver, Canada to broaden his horizons. He also enjoys shooting across the Tasman to catch up with brothers and a sister who live there.
The years he spent involved with the National Bank in Pukekohe, Manukau City, Manurewa, East Tamaki, Howick, Pakuranga, Hunters Corner and Newmarket have helped to develop his business networking and leadership skills. No stone in South East Auckland has been left unturned and he has a large network of business contacts.
Wyatt believes in giving back to the community and now that he owns a local business as well as living in Pukekohe, he is looking forward to involving himself with the local BNI and business groups.
He has regularly been sought out by customers, staff and peers, to help solve problems and issues within the branch banking/financial environment – and brings this experience to Franklin businesses with Smart.
Wyatt delivers the same commitment and enthusiasm he had for in his banking career in supporting local businesses with outsourced office services that meet the challenges of cutting overheads (and the demands of still getting the work done) in the present day business environment.
