Container Relocations – disaster plan pays off big time

Earthquake Update.

Hi everyone. As you can imagine, this has been a very tough time for us. The earthquake on the 22nd Feb was a major event as the epicentre was only 1.2km from home and 2km from the office.

We’ve spent a lot of time (and money) producing a full disaster recovery plan for our business, and I’m happy to say that it has performed perfectly.

Below is a summary of where we’re at:

  • My family are safe and are in Napier staying with my parents.
  • My home is damaged and currently red stickered (due to the danger from rock falls).
  • I’m living in my caravan at present – which isn’t so bad as it has hot water, a shower and toilet.
  • The office has been inspected by a structural engineer and declared safe ‐ albeit a huge clean up is needed.
  • Operations are unaffected.
  • Containers supply is very tight – we have railed 3 containers up from Dunedin (arrived this morning) and have leased an additional 10 units in Auckland that are due to arrive in Christchurch mid next week.
  • We have also leased an additional 5 x 40ft containers for commercial clients.
  • Telephones – all incoming calls from our 0800 number are routed  to my call centre where Phil and his team at asmartbusiness.co.nz – you guys are doing a fantastic job.
  • IT – our data is hosted in a secure data centre which has a full disaster recovery plan.  Our data is safe and we can continue to access it.

Let me assure all of our valued customers and service providers that we are open for business.  I’m sure you’ll understand that in times of crisis – we need to secure the safety of our young family (Stefan aged 8 and Emma aged 5) not to mention Michelle and I (aged 21 or there abouts……LOL).

Thank you all for your support, friendship and loyalty during these challenging times. Even though we have a damaged house, I count myself very lucky that our family and friends are all safe.
